Built an AI-powered Shopify tool that enabled SMEs boost sales, increasing product visibility by 30%

Leveraging AI and UX design to optimise product discovery and conversion rates for merchants

My role included UX research, UI design, user testing and stakeholder management. I managed and designed the product from 0 to 1.

The project is under NDA and hence, I have shared an overview of the process.

Background & project goals

Adnabu wanted a digital solution that allows merchants to upload products through the app integration and get instant results from Google Merchant Centre.

AdNabu provides Shopify merchants software solutions to grow their e-commerce business. They have 3 apps on the Shopify App Store which assist in automation of creating, managing and optimising Google ads & Google shopping feed. This project is an overview of designing one of the them - AI Feed management app that allows Shopify merchants to make their product data friendly for Google Ads and increase sales through Google shopping.

Design Impact

The Shopify app went live in 2020.

4.8/5

User rating on Shopify as of 2025

85%

adoption rate by merchants

Problem

Most of the merchants find the Google Shopping integration with Shopify difficult to use.

AdNabu through their research had already found a loophole in Shopify's free Google Shopping Feed app which was making merchants loose out on sales to their competitors-

  1. Long list of requirements

  2. Late product approvals

  3. Tedious manual editing

Solution

By using Google Shopping feed app, a single merchant with 100 products can expect a 15% increase in sales annually.

I designed the product feed management interface to track status of products, edit attribute level descriptions using AdNabu's AI generated key-word suggestions and push feed for Google Shopping review.

Key learnings

Introduction to building products for Shopify

It was quite exciting to learn about Shopify as a product through immersion and its business strategy to comprehend how our users use the platform.

Learning to build a SaaS product

Being thrown into the deep end to learn how the product works using only meeting notes was difficult at first for me. However, I was able to improve the user experience more as I tested and iterated with the stakeholders.

Inspired by Shopify design system (Polaris)

Shopify has a great design team who have documented and explained the use of elements in their Polaris design system. This has set a standard for me to achieve not only in design but also in documentation of the process.
